Welding & Assembly Services in Chicago
Welded and assembled parts made to your print
D&J Metalcraft Co. offers MIG, TIG and spot welding, hardware insertion and product assembly in Chicago, so you can get finished weldments and assemblies from one shop. D&J Metalcraft takes on work from small prototype batches all the way up to full production runs. Most of our work is short and mid-size runs, and we have the capacity for larger production volumes when you need them.
Email your drawing (PDF, DXF, STEP or SolidWorks .SLDPRT), material, thickness and quantity to info@djmetalcraft.com.
We are a contract, made-to-print shop at 4451 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL 60640, in business since 1975 and shipping nationwide.
MIG and TIG welding
We offer MIG and TIG welding. We weld mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum, and we review each print to recommend the right process for your part.
Spot welding for steel and stainless
We run multiple spot welders for steel and stainless. Spot welding joins overlapping sheet metal quickly and cleanly, and it suits repeatable sheet metal assemblies.
Hardware insertion
Hardware insertion (PEM nuts, studs and standoffs), drilling, tapping and countersinking in-house.
Finishing & Secondary Operations
We offer deburring and grinding on our wide belt abrasive finishing machine, drilling and tapping, and machining in-house and through our trusted partners. Finishing is available through our trusted partners: powder coating, wet paint, zinc plating, galvanizing, black oxide, anodizing, chrome plating, electroless plating and passivation.
Product assembly: one PO from blank to finished part
Assembly covers MIG, TIG and spot welding, hardware insertion (PEM nuts, studs and standoffs), drilling and tapping, so you get finished weldments and assemblies from one shop.
Upstream, parts are cut on our Trumpf fiber lasers and turret punch, formed on our press brakes up to 10 ft, with sheet sheared on a 10 ft shear and tube and bar stock cut on our bandsaws. See Laser Cutting, Press Brake Forming, CNC Turret Punching and Contract Metal Fabrication.
Why keep welding and assembly domestic
- Shorter domestic lead times, as little as 1 week depending on job size
- Same time zone and direct communication with the shop
- Quality you can verify with first-article inspection reports
- No ocean freight or customs delays
- Small runs without large minimum order quantities
First-article inspection
First-article inspection reports are available. Each report lists every print dimension, its tolerance and the measured value.

Welding & assembly FAQ
What is the difference between MIG and TIG welding, and which does my part need?
MIG welding is fast and well suited to general fabrication. TIG welding is slower and gives cleaner, more precise welds on thin or visible joints. Send your print and we will recommend the process.
Can you weld mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum?
Yes. D&J welds mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
What is spot welding used for in sheet metal parts?
Spot welding joins overlapping sheet metal at small points without filler material. It is common in enclosures, brackets and panels. We run multiple spot welders for steel and stainless.
Can you install PEM nuts, studs and standoffs in sheet metal?
Yes. We offer hardware insertion (PEM nuts, studs and standoffs), plus drilling, tapping and countersinking in-house.
Are your welders certified?
D&J does not hold formal certifications. Instead, we provide first-article inspection reports that list each print dimension, its tolerance and the measured value, and we back that with a track record since 1975.
Can one shop cut, bend, weld and assemble my part?
Yes. We laser cut, punch, form, weld and assemble in one shop, so you get one PO from blank to finished part.
How do you check welded assemblies against my drawing?
We provide first-article inspection reports listing each print dimension, its tolerance and the measured value.
Is it cheaper to buy welded assemblies overseas?
Look at total cost, not just the piece price. Freight, long lead times, customs delays and rework all add up. Buying domestic gives you shorter lead times, direct communication and quality you can verify.
Can you deliver finished, painted or plated parts?
Yes. Finishing is managed through our trusted partners (powder coating, wet paint, zinc plating, galvanizing, black oxide, anodizing, chrome plating, electroless plating and passivation), and machined components come from machining in-house and through our trusted partners, so you get finished parts on one PO.
